OSU Studio Art Capstone Exhibition opens in Gardiner Artwork Gallery

The Oklahoma Point out University studio art BFA capstone exhibition opened Thursday, March 23, at the Gardiner Gallery of Art
in the Bartlett Center on OSU’s Stillwater campus.
The selection is composed of art from a few graduating seniors, with highlighted pieces
representing the end result of their years at OSU experimenting, acquiring and refining
a distinct entire body of operate that demonstrates their inventive expansion.
College students featured in the exhibition were being Austin Dawes, Emily Singleton and Echo Smith.
“Each man or woman is checking out concepts connected to the complexities of their multifaceted
identities,” claimed Jessica Teckemeyer, assistant professor of sculpture. “Thematically,
this is the most cohesive BFA exhibition I have viewed in my four yrs at OSU. We are
very very pleased of the achievements of these three students.”

sculpture, photography and printmaking. The gallery represents the students’ comprehension
of their id and self-notion. Dawes tells a tale of acceptance and clarity.
“I came on figuration by portray self-portraits in an attempt to look at,
and even change, my self-notion,” Dawes claimed. “The act of placing myself outside the house
of my body, of self-objectifying, supplied clarity. Through sculpture, it turned clearer
that objects, non-topics, assist human beings see ourselves. By identifying with objects,
we discover a viewpoint beyond our bodies from which to glance at ourselves.”
Singleton’s assortment, On My Possess, experiments associations, house and time and how she demonstrates on them. Singleton created
her perform motivated by other artists who apply photographic manipulation.
“In this sequence, I use compositing to build multiples of myself within just scenes of
unattainable realism,” Singleton claimed. “Both fictional and autobiographical, these orchestrated
tableaus depict the nuances of self-perception and hire a feeling of the uncanny.
With photographic manipulation, I can doc a space in time that never ever essentially
existed.”
Smith’s get the job done depicts struggles in day-to-day lifestyle and changing to adulthood. Via oil
painting and print, Smith examines feelings related to the mundane.
“I analyze anxiety, annoyance, burnout and dread,” Smith stated. “Many of my artworks
feature multiples of myself interacting with every other in a shared house. The figures
work with each other to fix mundane but nerve-racking difficulties this sort of as executing the dishes, acquiring
prepared in the early morning, or working with car or truck hassle. The use of the recurring self represents
the interior conversations that arise as I operate by means of my nervousness.”
The exhibition is on check out by Friday, April 7, and is totally free and open to the general public.
A reception will take put from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 23. Starting at 6 p.m.,
pupils will provide a transient artists’ communicate. The Gardiner Gallery of Art is open 8
