A young man endured the stuff of nightmares, waking up inside an empty movie theatre after falling asleep watching The Exorcist: Believer.
Jeffrey Bryant, 23, had the AMC theatre in Orange, Calif., all to himself overnight on Oct. 29, having woken up at 3:47 a.m. to find the theatre completely empty with no staffers or moviegoers.
Bryant documented his unlikely scenario on TikTok during the early morning of Oct. 30 and his social media footage has been viewed more than 1.6 million times.
“I fell asleep in the movies woke up at 3:47 AM not 1 employee on site they closed at 11,” he wrote in an on-screen caption.
Bryant told Insider this week that he had gone to see a 10:05 p.m. showing of the franchise horror film that evening. He said he wasn’t particularly sleepy at the time.
Still, a combination of factors led to him falling asleep, including the first part of the movie being “kind of boring,” along with the fact the air conditioning was on and he was seated in a cozy chair.
The Exorcist: Believer has a run time of two hours and 12 minutes, but Bryant’s stay lasted well beyond that.

“Nobody is in the movie theatre anymore, bro. Nobody,” he said on TikTok, while showing viewers an empty lobby and snack area with the lights still on.
The sleepy moviegoer said he was surprised no one tried to wake him, and when he woke up, he didn’t immediately realize what time it was.
He said the front doors were locked, but he got out through an emergency exit as its alarm went off.
In a follow-up TikTok video, Bryant said he didn’t see a single person in the theatre when he filmed his initial TikTok. He said there was a security guard present when he arrived at the theatre, but that person had left by the time he woke up.
