Graduate studio art students to host Open Studios Nov. 3 | Nebraska Today

Graduate students in the Master of Fine Arts studio art program in the School of Art, Art History and Design will host their annual Open Studios and Raffle from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 3.

The event, hosted by the student-run Visual Artists in Practice, is free and open to the public. Studios will be open in Richards Hall (basement and 2nd floor) and Woods Art Building (basement and 3rd floor) on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln city campus.

“Our Open Studios is an event for graduate students to open our doors to the community of the School of Art, Art History and Design and the general public,” said Christopher Williams, a graduate student in ceramics. “This is a chance for us to have conversations with students and community members who may not be able to have a personal visit with the artists.”

Each participating graduate student will have a piece in the raffle that participants can attempt to win by buying a ticket ($1 each, cash only). The raffle drawing will be held at 8:15 p.m. Winners need not be present to win.

“The purchase of these tickets allows us to do communal events throughout the year, as well as an exchange show with the University of Arkansas this year,” Williams said. “We will have a map for each studio, and if you visit each grad student’s studio, you will earn some extra raffle tickets.”

Participating artists this year include Christy Aggens (Richards Hall room 109), Sara Alfieri (Richards Hall room 16), Casey Beck (Richards Hall room 225), Rachel Clarke (Richards Hall room 201), Jewelya Coffey (Richards Hall room 204), Dominique Ellis (Woods Art Building room 306), Angelica Tapia Estrada (Woods Art Building room 306), Brian Garbrecht (Woods Art Building room 4), Daniel Garcia (Richards Hall room 210), Josh Goering (Richards Hall room 206), KStony (Richards Hall room 210), Matt Meyer (Richards Hall room 16), Charlotte Middleton (Richards Hall room 206), Alex Rendbarger (Richards Hall room 122), Ani Sargsyan (Richards Hall room 201), Kim Tomlinson (Woods Art Building room 306), Allie Wheeler (Woods Art Building room 306) and Williams (Richards Hall room 16).

Visual Artists in Practice is a graduate student organization for Master of Fine Arts candidates in art and art history. It is designed to foster exchange and community among graduate students, the university and Lincoln community at large through student-led initiatives, as well as programs and events organized by graduate student leaders.

Richards Hall is located at the corner of Stadium Drive and T streets. Woods Art Building is directly west of Sheldon Museum of Art.
