The reviews are in! The North American premiere of Broadway-certain musical & Juliet began performances June 22 at Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre, for a run through August 14. 

Starring in the creation is Broadway alum Lorna Courtney as Juliet, Tony winner Paulo Szot as Lance, Broadway veteran Betsy Wolfe as Anne Hathaway, Tony nominee Stark Sands as Shakespeare, Justin David Sullivan as Might, Ben Jackson Walker as Romeo, and Philippe Arroyo as Francois. Melanie La Barrie joins the creation as Nurse, which she originated in the U.K. premiere creation.

& Juliet is set to make its Broadway debut Oct 28 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, in advance of a November 17 opening night. The musical features a book by Schitt’s Creek writer and Emmy winner David West Examine with songs from Grammy winner Max Martin, and irreverently considers a new tale for Shakespeare’s tragic heroine and lovestruck teen Juliet in which she chooses to stay following Romeo dies. The score features common pop tracks from the last 3 a long time, including “Since U Been Absent,” “Roar,” “Baby One Much more Time,” “Larger Than Lifestyle,” “That’s The Way It Is,” and “Can’t Prevent the Sensation.”

Integrated in the ensemble are Brandon Antonio, Nico De Jesus, Nicholas Edwards, Katy Geraghty, Virgil Gadson, Bobby Horner, Joomin Hwang, Michael Iván Carrier, Alaina Vi T.Maderal, Daniel J. Maldonado, Joe Moeller, Brittany Nicholas, Veronica Otim, Jasmine Rafael, Matt Raffy, Tiernan Tunnicliffe, and Rachel Webb.

Luke Sheppard directs the output which also characteristics choreography by Jennifer Weber, set style by Soutra Gilmour, costume design and style by Paloma Youthful, lighting style by Howard Hudson, seem style by Gareth Owen, and hair design and style by J. Jared Janas. Monthly bill Sherman serves as musical supervisor, orchestrator, and arranger. Casting is by Stephen Kopel and Carrie Gardner even though Canadian casting is by Stephanie Gorin. Martin also serves as producer together with Tim Headington.

& Juliet initial premiered at Manchester Opera Residence in 2019 forward of moving to the West End’s Shaftesbury Theatre.
